The C Thing

The Current Thing™: Away we go!

I want to start by thanking everyone who sent nice messages and pictures of pets, especially if I didn’t remember to respond and thank you personally. It means a lot to me, especially from those of you I haven’t seen in many years. I feel warm and fuzzy that you still remember me.

It’s going pretty good right now, but shit’s about to get real. Last week we met with the doctor and specialists who administer the infusions and got a bunch of questions answered.

Me: “Where is the treatment done? What days of the week do I need to be there? What about vitamins and nutrition?”
Mr Radish: “Can she still drink beer? Can we still fly on vacations?”

He was strangely upset to learn that I should avoid foods high in Vitamin C while undergoing treatment. I am happy the You Must Drink Fruit Juice Every Day argument that started in the lockdown can finally end (and I win), but bummed that I’ll have to limit my red cabbage with the roast duck as we roll into fall.

Doc, born and raised in Freising, did the Bavarian thing:

“Beer is good…says the doctor!”
Helps you relax, calms the nerves, loosens your joints.

Tuesday I will be getting my first cyborg part: a port will be installed for the year of infusions. It’s an outpatient procedure, but I have to go to Landshut an der Isar for it, and I am not allowed to drive myself. Fun fact: The doctor who will be performing it works out of the same practice as the hand specialist who told me in 2021 there was nothing more to be done with my left hand. At that time, the practice had a larger-than-life-size statue of a naked dude in the reception area. I’ll keep y’all informed, lol.

On Thursday I am forced to drive myself (ugh) back to Landshut for a six- or seven-hour CT scan. I’ll pre-schedule some memes and pack a lunch. Maybe finally read a book, I don’t know. This will be a new experience for me.

Meanwhile, I have a long list of medications and vitamins and fashion accessories to purchase. I have not yet cut all my hair off. I also haven’t called the wig specialist; I know prosthetic wigs require a lot of work and I have been “wash and go” with my real hair for years.

(If anyone wants to buy me a beanie or a turban, let me know and I will set up a wish list with German Amazon so there are no issues with postage costs or import taxes. I’m thinking “the crazier, the better” on this. I’ve downloaded a bunch of patterns to make my own, but y’all know how that goes for me.)

Doin’ my best here.

Tentative start date is September 18, which is perfect because then I don’t miss Volksfest or Kürbisfest, but it could start earlier. Stay tuned!
