Making a silly supper for Halloween has become a tradition around here. Feetloaf may have gone too far…
…so we dialed it back a bit this year, and made some Spaghetti with Eyeballs.
I used my Classic American Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe for this one, but when Halloween falls on a school night, go ahead and use frozen balls and jarred sauce. What we’re going for here is appearance.
About half of the balls were baked at 200°C for 30 minutes.
The other half were added to the sauce.
Then I turned off the oven, added a circle of provolone and a slice of olive, and placed the meatballs back in the oven for a few minutes until the spaghetti zombie brains were done. I was so excited, I forgot to take a picture of the pan. Here’s a close-up of my dinner:
The joke does not translate well. The German word for eyeball is Augapfel, literally “Eye apple”, and while I’m willing to investigate dessert pastas with applesauce, I’m not sure the visual joke works on the highly intellectual level y’all expect from this blog.
There’s plenty of leftovers, along with fresh zombie brains!
