87.1% of the films were new-to-me. I can’t decide if this is good or not. Maybe this year I should watch some movies that I know I like.
This graph depresses me. But six of the 2020s films were documentaries, and one was from a beloved Bavarian franchise, so maybe it’s not as awful as it looks.
Language
The first pie chart shows all 179 movies organized by their original language. (Yes, “Bavarian/American”–that came straight off the DVD.)
“None” is Shaun the Sheep, although I think my notes may have said “Barnyard.” There is less variety than I expected.
Approximately 75% of the films were seen in their original language, with 90% of the rest dubbed over in German. This is slightly less than last year, but not enough to feel bad about. And what languages did those dubs cover up?
I think this chart will make more sense after the tedious analysis of source: classic British and American movies are never shown in their original language by German tax-funded TV. And as we know from Spaceballs, dubbing ruins the jokes.
