RadishFlix 2021: Highlights of KW23

I saw something crazy in German television last week that I was going to write about, but now I’ve forgotten what it was. Na ja.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Crossover meme stolen from Internets

Netflix, original English
You know how when silent films were copied, they would use dyes and tints in the scenes make different colors to create different moods (blue = night, green = nature, yellow = day)? They did the same thing here with some sort of computer filter, and it was really annoying.

This seemed to be a remake of the Tojo Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Attack of the Giant Monsters, which I liked better. The human characters that did not come over from the 2014 film were unsympathisch, and SPOILER ALERT none of them die. Only the likeable humans die. Good representation of Godzilla, though.

But mostly I got stuck on the colors.

The Bugs Bunny/Road-Runner Movie (1979)

Netflix, original English
On the “watch any time it is available list”, because it’s just a bunch of clips of cartoons I’ve seen a billionty times, including the ultimate proof of American cultural superiority: “What’s Opera, Doc?”

On this watch, I was particularly struck by the background colors, especially in the Road-Runner half of the show. Gorgeous. I could watch this over and over again.

I totally get this guy.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)

Cable, original English
I know everyone is supposed to love this, but I didn’t. Monroe’s unfaithful gold-digger character annoyed me. I did enjoy Jane Russell’s musical number with the “Olympic team” dancers, and the costuming was nice, but this is one for the “I’ve seen it, so I don’t have to see it again” list.
