I&#8217;m still mainlining podcasts about the Bronze Age (and earlier) while I Do Stuff, so not so many movies this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0090887\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">Critters<\/a>&nbsp;(1986)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cable, original<\/em> English<br>It was bad, but it was a good bad. I laughed where expected, the product placements made me nostalgic, the sheriff later plays a retired LEO in <a href=\"https:\/\/x-files.fandom.com\/wiki\/The_Unnatural\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/x-files.fandom.com\/wiki\/The_Unnatural\">The X-File About Baseball<\/a>, and the kid grows up to become the First Officer on <a href=\"https:\/\/orville.fandom.com\/wiki\/Gordon_Malloy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/orville.fandom.com\/wiki\/Gordon_Malloy\">the Orville<\/a>. <br><br>86 minutes of dumb escape. Can&#8217;t get enough of that these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2557478\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">Pacific Rim: Uprising<\/a>&nbsp;(2018)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>German Commercial Free TV, Deutsch<\/em><br>After a handful of Godzillas, Mr Radish was in the mood for something different and chose&#8230;a reworking of <em>Mechagodzilla<\/em> with a splash of <em>Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em>. Evil kaiju-sized robots, feisty orphan girls scavenging for parts, threats to the whole planet. <br><br>German commercial free TV is my absolute least favorite way to watch a movie; the commercial breaks are so long&#8211;and they have a deal with the cable company, no fast-forwarding the commercials on the DVR&#8211; that they repeat scenes because you&#8217;ll have forgotten what you&#8217;re watching by the time you return. I probably would have enjoyed the movie on another platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0012794\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">The Pilgrimage to Kevlaar<\/a>&nbsp;(1921)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Netflix, Swedish title cards with English subtitles<\/em><br>Another Swedish silent film based on a poem, this time by the German poet Heinrich Heine (just pretend we&#8217;re all familiar with the work of Heine). I could see from the title cards&#8211;lovely art deco illustrated capitals, btw&#8211;that the Swedish translation rhymed. The English translation did not.  <br><br>Some nice special effects, and much of it was filmed on location in Germany.  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallfahrt-kevelaer.de\/entstehung-der-wallfahrt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wallfahrt-kevelaer.de\/entstehung-der-wallfahrt\/\">Kevelaer is a real place<\/a>, with a 17th century shrine to Mary<em> Mutter Gottes<\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/eschweiler-kirche.de\/aktuelles\/nachrichten\/a-blog\/Wallfahrt-nach-Kevelaer-mit-vielen-Impulsen\/\" title=\"https:\/\/eschweiler-kirche.de\/aktuelles\/nachrichten\/a-blog\/Wallfahrt-nach-Kevelaer-mit-vielen-Impulsen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">until the &#8216;rona ruined everything<\/a>, the parish organized yearly processions of pilgrims seeking her help.
