Why so many English-language films? Possibly the new streaming US-based services, but I saw the most movies from the arte Mediathek, which provides the original audio for many British classic films.

Noticeable: Fewer TV channels than before.

This graph is the reason I keep notes all year.

I haven’t done the work to determine if my Netflix consumption is up or down compared to 2024. Right now I’m using it for non-original TV shows like Turn: Washington’s Spies and Supernatural. (We also really enjoyed Culinary Class Wars.) And Mr Radish has already canceled Disney, because he just wanted to watch the Star Wars stuff and doesn’t care that I wasn’t anywhere near finished enjoying all the 20th-century FOX and ABC content.

This year set a record for the percentage of DVDs, and it’s now more than 3/4 streaming. Television just isn’t showing me what I want to watch anymore.

I called the last graph “payment” because I don’t have a better word, but they’re all paid for one way or another–even the DVDs from the library, we pay a yearly fee for that. ÖRR is the German tax-funded media (still a rip-off at 18,36€ every month), and “free” is YouTube and Tubi, both of which are supported by advertising. Only the archive.org was truly free, but it’s hard to sort through the garbage there.

(I love Tubi, even though the ads they show me make me despair for the future of America. So much sports betting.)
