The whole reason I started keeping notes in my IMDB list was to determine if I was watching more movies in German or English, and how many movies I was watching in the original language<\/a>. Let’s see what happened in 2025.

But first: A whopping record 29.3% of this year’s movies were rewatches. The most rewatches happened in March<\/a>, when we got a new streaming service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want to say, “I like to watch things I know I’ll like” but some of the rewatches were “I forgot how bad this was.”<\/a> FWIW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My rule is to always choose original language when it is available, and thus a crazy record 94.31% of my 2025 movies were viewed in the original language (some with subtitles).

I’m not sure this number is entirely accurate, as I was unable to determine in which country the silent film Queen Kelly<\/a><\/em> was first released. (The silent era was the golden age of European film because drawing new title cards is so much easier than synchronizing dialog.) But it makes sense from the number of rewatches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Original Language<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hardly worth making the chart, but I can’t declare 2025 the Year of Not-Foreign Films until I figure out how many of them were British. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for subtitles, they were all English except La otra<\/em><\/a>, the Mexican noir film, and now I feel bad that I didn’t watch the whole collection in the arte Mediathek before they took it down. Goals for 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
