This box of cables was in the living room for nine years, in a storage cubby, so at least I didn’t have to look at it.
We never once used anything in it.
I have moved it to our basement storage (because there is always a chance I will need a coaxial cable).
Let’s see how long it takes Mr Radish to notice I am filling that space with books and Legos.

So this week I was at a wrestling meet, for the first time since high school. We were there to support a friend’s brother, on the visiting team. In the break, the DJ played “Last Christmas”<\/a>. Sigh.

Anyway, it was an interesting glimpse into a subculture we normally have no contact with. Sports in Germany are conducted in clubs, and the wrestling clubs were every bit as intense as soccer fans, with drums and chants. The moms and grandmas were the craziest, especially after they got a couple of cocktails in them, and the ref took a lot of abuse (mad props to this guy, able to ignore all the screaming from the edge of the mat to concentrate on the match in front of him; I couldn’t do that).

For no reason at all, while watching a man who was obviously over thirty wrestling for his club, I thought of Stevie Hicks<\/a>, as well as some guys I went to HS with. The club system for team sports has a big advantage over the US system of attaching them to schools: you don’t age out. You don’t lose your identity as a “football player” or “wrestler” after a set number of years; you go from “junior” to “senior” classes, and you may have to organize the over-40 tournament yourself, but you choose when to quit, based on your mind and body, instead of being forced out on a specific date. And you can stay a member of the club for your whole life. Real big mental health boost there, especially for men. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
