I know what you&#8217;re thinking because I thought it, too: pizza mashed potatoes?  It works somehow.  Plus, there is cheese in every bit of this dish, what&#8217;s not to love about that?!<br><br>For the meatballs, I used the standard beef-pork mix that gets ground fresh at the supermarket meat counter, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.granapadano.it\/en-en\/\" title=\"Grana Padano\">Grana Padano<\/a> instead of parmesan because I can&#8217;t quit my <a href=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2020\/12\/18\/lockdownkuche-gnome-bolognese-in-schneefall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"dealer\">dealer<\/a> at the farmers market.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"687\" src=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/PizzaMashedPotatoes_RawMix.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4672\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/PizzaMashedPotatoes_RawMix.jpg 500w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/PizzaMashedPotatoes_RawMix-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/PizzaMashedPotatoes_RawMix-109x150.jpg 109w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Standard beef-pork mixture.<br>November 2024<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The balls are baked, so they won&#8217;t get the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespruceeats.com\/what-is-the-maillard-reaction-995776\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Maillard-Reaction yumminess\">Maillard-Reaction yumminess<\/a>, but as there is cheese in every bit of this dish, you won&#8217;t miss it.  While they bake, mix cheddar cheese and bacon (or here, ham bits) into your leftover mashed potatoes.  The original recipe says to use three cups of potato and form twelve balls, but I had five cups and just used it all. The recipe author calls &#8220;a can of tomato sauce mixed with some onion and spices&#8221; a &#8220;marinara sauce&#8221;, which I feel is an insult to Italian grandmothers on both sides of the Atlantic.  Here I could have saved time and money with a can of ready-to-go pizza sauce from the company that made the can of passata (sauce) that I used here; they are often the same price when on sale. A.MAZE.ZING.
