We’re in an Ausgangsbeschr\u00e4nkung<\/em>–we are allowed to leave our homes only for a reason on a published list<\/a>–but I’ve messed up my knee so the only place I’ve been since Monday is physical therapy. There’s a lot of howling that this list is too long–how dare the government allow people to buy soap, or worship, or walk freely in the fresh air for exercise! I am depressed I was unable to hobble down to the weekly market, and more depressed because this was probably my last chance for the foreseeable future. The library is already closed indefinitely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway. Yesterday I made Rahmspinat<\/a><\/em> for the first time, because I bought too much spinach earlier in the week<\/a>. It was easier and tastier than I expected. The fish sticks are coated with Bretzl<\/em>, making them into a sort of luxury variant, and there was homemade tartar sauce. It’s definitely a throw-back to a school lunch menu I remember enjoying, although I’m pretty sure we always had peas instead of spinach. We never had fish sticks at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creamed spinach as comfort food. I have fallen low, indeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We did have them with peas in November. The orange mush is K\u00fcrbis-Kartoffel Stampf<\/em>, which I am going to translate as Smashed Potatoes with Pumpkin. It’s about a 3:1 tater-punkin ratio; I used fresh, diced, raw pumpkin flesh because it was leftover from something else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
