This is a reliably tasty soup from my hand-written and hyper-personalized Denglisch recipe binder.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the one hand, boiling meatballs instead of pan-frying them deprives them of the Maillard Reaction&#8211;easier to spell in German, <em>R\u00f6staroma<\/em>&#8211;that makes them super-delicious. On the other hand, it&#8217;s easier to clean up the kitchen after supper, which is not insignificant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"735\" src=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/tuscansoup1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/tuscansoup1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/tuscansoup1-300x221.jpg 300w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/tuscansoup1-768x564.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>Bite-sized and easy!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It started as a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.de\/pin\/62487513567627832\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Tuscan&#8221; soup<\/a>, but as I have suffered so many insulting takes on &#8220;American&#8221; food, my Golden Rule is to refuse to put a regional label on anything that does not come from a local expert. This is &#8220;Soup with Meatballs and <em>Kurkuma<\/em>.&#8221; <em>Punkt<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first time I made this recipe, I discovered that while my local supermarket had 27 different shapes of pasta from Italy and nearly as many shapes of egg noodles from Germany, there was nothing resembling &#8220;Orzo&#8221;. I chose tiny shells from Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg. This week I used stars for a little Advent Flair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(I later discovered Orzo in a different supermarket, in the Turkish specialties section. Good to know for the next recipe, but the egg noodles taste so good!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also used spinach. I&#8217;ve got a steady dealer for the former, and obtained the latter at an annual market day that didn&#8217;t happen this year. The traveling spice trader has no internet presence.
