{"id":1486,"date":"2022-10-01T11:38:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-01T09:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2022-09-30T12:08:16","modified_gmt":"2022-09-30T10:08:16","slug":"september-movie-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2022\/10\/01\/september-movie-post\/","title":{"rendered":"September movie post"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This month we&#8217;ve been out to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hannelebear\/status\/1567157143077257217?s=20&amp;t=GAX7arvQeMZfsUbB4HT7ww\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Volksfest<\/a> (three times), the <a href=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2022\/09\/20\/patchworkmesse-erding-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patchworkmesse<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CiHNXSdIlRf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hopfazupfa<\/a>, and a couple of day trips, but there was still a lot of sitting on the couch under <a href=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/30\/co-de-cat-dence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the cat<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/alf_eating_popcorn-1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1540\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1086064\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">Bill &amp; Ted Face the Music<\/a>&nbsp;(2020)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Prime, original English<\/em><br>The only time Mr Radish* laughed was when Mozart called Hendrix a &#8220;<em>geiler Sau<\/em>&#8220;, but it was what I expected from a &#8220;Gen X in middle age&#8221; sequel&#8211;all the important characters, all the familiar jokes&#8211;and I laughed often. Bonus cool points for Ted playing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thereminworld.com\/clara-rockmore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Theramin<\/a>. Stick around for the post-credits scene.  Most definitely non-heinous.  <br><br>*Also he&#8217;d forgotten the jokes from the second film, but that&#8217;s his own fault for not watching it with me <a href=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2022\/05\/10\/you-know-how-it-is-with-april-movies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt11034894\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">Kaiserschmarrndrama<\/a>&nbsp;(2021)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>ARD Mediathek, original Niederbayerisch with German subtitles<\/em><br>Yes, <a href=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2021\/11\/04\/three-months-of-radishflix-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">I saw it in a <em>Kino<\/em> last year<\/a>, but I am a completist and I had 90 minutes to kill. I actually like it better now, after <a href=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/01\/the-july-movie-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seeing all the earlier films in July<\/a> (and because I was prepared for the death of the beloved character).<br><br>I still haven&#8217;t seen the latest movie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1335975\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">47 Ronin<\/a>&nbsp;(2013)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cable, original<\/em><br>Keanu Month. This movie was beautifully filmed, an absolute visual masterpiece, but so sad I can never see it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0033870\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">The Maltese Falcon<\/a>&nbsp;(1941)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cable, original English<\/em><br>Another classic checked off, but I didn&#8217;t really get into it. I caught myself watching the play of the shadows instead of listening to the dialog. In general I like <em>noir<\/em>; this one just didn&#8217;t work for me. Possibly forty years of cites, references, parodies, and praise left me with greater expectations than it warranted. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/162390c8a97491a5_w-2401828581.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1529\" width=\"450\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/162390c8a97491a5_w-2401828581.jpg 600w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/162390c8a97491a5_w-2401828581-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption><em><a href=\"https:\/\/simkl.com\/tv\/2385\/animaniacs\/season-3\/episode-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As I was saying&#8230;<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0054428\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">The Unforgiven<\/a>&nbsp;(1960)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NDR, Deutsch<\/em><br>Beautifully filmed landscapes and an all-star cast, and yet unenjoyable. You expect characters to grow and change during the story, but too many did complete 180 turns on a dime. Words You Can&#8217;t Say These Days were used. Then, after learning she was adopted, Burt Lancaster&#8217;s character slipped his little sister the tongue.  DUDE.  <br><br>Sometimes you take a chance and it doesn&#8217;t pay off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0945356\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">Kunsten \u00e5 tenke negativt<\/a>&nbsp;(2006)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Netflix, original Norwegian with English subtitles<\/em><br><em>The Art of Negative Thinking<\/em>. Dude who was paralyzed in an accident blows up a local support group for suddenly-disabled people when forced by his wife to participate (confusingly, the subtitles called her his girlfriend even though there was wedding video footage).  Another European &#8220;comedy&#8221; centered around attempted suicide and abusive relationships (here I include the group&#8217;s able-bodied moderator, who was milking them for book fodder&#8230;).  Anyway&#8211;no spoiler, it&#8217;s kind of in the title&#8211;a night of getting drunk and screaming at each other helped the group&#8217;s members more than months of touchy-feely therapeutic crap.<br><br>I&#8230;it wasn&#8217;t *bad*. But it was a Pretentious Scandi Art House Film\/Raunchy Bro Jokes Mashup and I find this combination off-putting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0022158\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">Monkey Business<\/a>&nbsp;(1931)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cable, Deutsch<\/em><br>I missed most of Groucho&#8217;s jokes because he talked too fast for me to translate in my head, but I enjoyed all the slapstick (and of course the sets and costumes). <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image456__700-3140419027.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1527\" width=\"350\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image456__700-3140419027.jpg 700w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image456__700-3140419027-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/radishthegreat.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/image456__700-3140419027-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><figcaption><em>&#8220;Hey, maybe there&#8217;s a cat meme I can gank for this post to break up the text with an image and improve the readability.&#8221;<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0079336\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">The In-Laws<\/a>&nbsp;(1979)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cable, original English<\/em><br>Completely random late-night comedy-action movie that turned out to be quite funny. Alan Arkin is a staid dentist, Peter Falk is a schizoid CIA spook who gets him involved in a complicated federal crime that may or may not be a real mission.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0970416\/?ref_=ttls_li_tt\">The Day the Earth Stood Still<\/a>&nbsp;(2008)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Cable, original English<\/em><br>Keanu Month continues. This movie was terrible. TERRIBLE.  BUT: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0393222\/?ref_=tt_cl_t_9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Hong<\/a><\/strong>.  Over 450 acting and voice credits. A hundred sit-coms and hour-long dramas you know, and a hundred more you don&#8217;t. Kung Fu Panda.  I recognized his name in the opening credits because I had just seen him in <em>The In-Laws<\/em>, and his face from <a href=\"https:\/\/x-files.fandom.com\/wiki\/Hell_Money?file=Hard-Faced_Man_talks_with_Hsin.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the X-Files episode with BD Wong<\/a>&#8230;<br><br>Forget James Dean.
